A Perentie climbing a tree and our lunch break site while hiking.
After a good re-supply at Port Augusta where only a few things were open being Boxing day we set off for Mt. Remarkable N.P. There is a well laid out camping area here and it was good to have a decent shower after only billy showers and baby wipes for so long. While there we did a nice long walk that took in a good part of the day through Hidden Gorge.
Hiking through Hidden Gorge in Mt. Remarkable N.P.
Was very hot for our hike but at least we had quite a bit of shade when walking along the dry river bed through some gorges.
The very Blue Lake at Mt Gambier and a Petrified forest.
We followed the coast along staying at Coorong N.P. again where you can get in some surfing and driving along the beach and sand dunes. Was not a busy as I though it would be being there at this time of year. Visited Mt Gambier to get a permit to swim in the Piccaninnie Ponds which have huge under water caves with the clearest water around. But we were not allowed on account we only had spring wet suits with us and not full steamers! But we got to camp for free beside the beach there instead. You can also drive along the beach here to the Victorian border.
Nigretta and Wannon falls.
We headed back into our home state and was told that Mt. Eccles N.P. would not have many people in it. But when we got there it was pretty much full with only some ant infested sites left. So we continued on and checked out some waterfalls near Hamilton which were very nice. There is also free camping at Wannon Falls which strangely was empty when we got there and just a single fisherman turned up later on.
