Nice reflection on my bonnet with a great sunset outside Roxby Downs.

We found this great camping spot only a couple of km behind Roxby Downs mining town nestled in the sand dunes which mines uranium among other things. Looks like they were going to make it into a park at one stage as there was a large stone barbecue there as well. Had the best sunset on the trip there too. You can click on the left image which has the reflection in the bonnet for a larger view.

Andamooka Opal Fields and Woomera Rocket Range.

We love opal and my wife has a few beauties that I have bought for her over the years. So we have visited just about every one around Australia which supplies 90% of the world market as they are by far the best. Andamooka has still the rough mining town feel to it and is not on the tourist trail like Coober Pedy and you can still do a bit of noodling in some of the old heaps around the place. Woomera Rocket Range is always worth a stop where they did test firings for many years and still gets used now and again.

Repairing a puncture at Lake Gairdner.

Leaving Woomera we headed north to Glendambo to refuel as there was to be a long while before we could get it again as the track we took has no fuel points at all. It follows the Trans Australian Railway which travels from the west to the east coast. We received warnings on using it when filling up as one of the locals had just died out there in 49* C or 120*F temps when his 4wd broke down and he was not carrying water! Just shows you can become complacent it you live out here but know the dangers. After following this to Kingoonya we headed south to Lake Gairdner and a good camp site we used last year at the Waltumba tank and pump at these GPS co-ordinates S32*07'10.5" E135*52'36.8" There is just a short track in, ending with camping among the trees. You cannot drive on the salt lake and you would not want to here either as the crust is very thin and you can see where people have tried and sunk! The speed trials are held much further south where the crust is thicker.
