It's great to have a personal gate opener   Flinders Ranges

We went as far as Baratta before following a little track across to Hawker which turned out to be really nice. Not used that much by the look of it as we were making the first tracks since at least the last rain a couple of weeks earlier. Had to find our way through some washed out creek banks etc but made it all the more special.

The private Arkapena Track

Just outside Wilpena Pound at Rawnsley Park you can get a permit and key to a couple of private 4wd tracks. Just go to the caravan park office and pay $25 and they give you a mud map and the key to open the station gates to travel your chosen track for the day.

Some great views from one of the lookouts of the trail.

We did the Arkapena track which takes around 3 hours to do and have a good look around while doing it. We found it quite nice with some steep sections that offer a little challenge, or a big one if a beginner, without being dangerous. Well worth doing if in the area and in some ways found it better than the famous Sky Trek which is twice as long and expensive but not twice as scenic.

Rawnsley Bluff

Found a great free camp site on the way to Wilpena Pound down beside a dry creek bed sheltered by big red river gums.  We prefer these to any commercial camp sites as like the solidarity and feel more engrossed with the surrounds this way. We have all that we need with our setup anyway and don't need to rely on any form of convenience camp grounds offer.
