There was this great track we found also at Petal Point that followed all the way along the coast to some nice deserted beaches that were used a bit for fishing. Right at the start at the headland look out for a rusty old metal container 6' or so high on the beach. At the base of this were an amazing collection of shells several feet thick and full of variety. The scenery was great along with the track with large sand drifts to cross at times as well.

Found a un-marked track along the coast south of Petal Point.

The Bay of Fires should not be missed and is at the top of the eastern shore. The redness comes from a type of organism that grows on the rocks here. Also take the 4wd track that leads south from Eddystone Point to Ansons Bay. We followed the coast closely here in past Binalong Bay town and finally to St Helens. From here we took a trip along some minor gravel roads to St Columba Falls shown below. Nice bit of rain forest to walk through and explore.

The Bay of Fires ( click it for big pic. ) is worth checking out as well as the rain forest around St Columba Falls.

Also at St Helens are the Peron Sand dunes. A lot more has been blocked off than in the past but they have left about 6 kilometres of dunes and beach to run along. Just keep an eye for it on the road coming back from St Helens Point on the gravel road closest to Maurouard Beach. Just make sure you drop your pressures as you enter the track through the dunes like the signs advise. Be careful as some of the dunes had very steep drops offs of a 100 feet!

Playing around in the Peron Sand dunes was great!

I think that the Freycinet Peninsula has to be the most scenic part of the east coast. It should not be missed and a hike into Wineglass Bay is mandatory. The whole area attracts a lot of tourists due to the beautiful place it is but don't let that put you off. If you are going to spend a lot of time visiting different National Parks like we did it is worth buying a Parks Pass. This will save you money in no time and also saves pulling up at the visitors center each time to buy a day pass.

A hike to Wineglass Bay is on the must do list.
