Well I aired down the tyres when I could not get any further and was kicking myself for not doing it first as I would have made it. I tried to go forward and even with rocking it back and forth got no further. Thought I would back it up to the waters edge to give it another go but before I got there the trailer jumped out of the wheel ruts and I had to jam on the brakes to stop it jack knifing. Well as you can see I got nowhere when I tried to go forward from here and I had to dig myself out. I knew there was no way now to get out with the trailer on so I un-hitched it so I could pull it backwards onto the hard sand.

Backed up for another try but did much worse without a full run up and bogged.

Darren who had been watching me from the shade of a tree offered for a donation to his engine re- build to pull me out with his Nissan Patrol named Battle Twuck that was powered by a Holden 308 V8 and running 36" Super Swampers. I hooked up my tree protector strap through the snatch'em strap between the two tow points to form an 'A' and give an even pull on both sides and gave him the all clear to stand on the gas making sure I did the same just before the strap tightened.

The Jeep popped out fairly easily with the tug from Darren and even started catching up when he hit the soft section full of holes where I had stopped the first time but the slack took up again when I went through the same section. Before we got un-hitched eight more got bogged behind me and they weren't loaded let alone towing and didn't make it as far so I felt a lot better. A big F250 even got bogged trying to drive down to the beach but the police however did make it through which Darren had hoped they wouldn't as he was going to charge them $200 to get them un-stuck.

His 'Battle Twuck' got me out but 8 more bogged behind me before I was even un-hitched!

We spent the next week catching up with family and friends that we had not seen in years and waited for the bush fires to clear in the south enough that we could make our way towards home. We took a lot of minor roads and dropped in on Bathurst and Mount Panorama race course that holds the most popular race of the year with some drivers even coming from Europe as Co-drivers to the V8 Supercar class that do 162 laps around this mountain course and 1000 kms. As it is public road you get the chance to drive around it and experience it.

Pole position at the Bathurst's Mount Panorama race circuit.
