After leaving the Painted Desert we went north into Oodnadatta and then followed the Old Ghan railway to New Crown Station. This section was little used when we were there with only a faint set of wheel tracks to follow past old train station ruins into the Northern Territory. From there it was onto the Old Andado Track which was mainly sand with some mud sections thrown in for good measure. We met no one at all along this track until we got to the Santa Teresa settlement which has no access being a Aboriginal town.
Sunrise over the Painted Desert and Border crossing
Into Alice Springs to re-supply and fix Ken's 2 week old OME springs which had already sagged in the rear and had to have another leaf fitted. We visited all of the gorges and chasms that are along the West MacDonnell Ranges which I have been going to since 1975 and still like a lot.

Being pretty hot we enjoyed swimming in all the rock holes we could find and did our hikes first thing in the morning before it got too hot. Always made sure that hats were on and sun screen on the arms of those with sensitive skin as getting burnt is all to easy with many an overseas tourist getting caught out.
